When my daughter was younger we would sit in her room before bed and read her young girl bible and a daily scripture and encouraging word. Somewhere along the way it stopped. I can’t remember what made that happen but because I am her mom I take full responsibility for letting that slip away from us.
The other day I was looking for a book for a friend who is sick and thought she could use some reading material. One of my favorite authors and all around inspiring women had released her book called “Girl Stop Apologizing”. I intentionally went looking for this book and came across her other book called “Girl, Wash Your Face”.
As I was looking at both books God planted a seed in my heart to read these books with my daughter. So two days ago we started our first book. We are reading a chapter a night right before bed. Now she resisted it at first and said no thank you, but I asked her to do this for me and she said okay.
Last night we finished chapter two and let me just say I could feel our bond become even more stronger than it already is.
At the end of each chapter Rachel Hollis has “things that helped me”, and after I read that, my daughter said oh, and then asked me a question and we had a brief conversation about it and said good night.
I’m excited to keep reading with my daughter and see where it takes us. I am 51 and she will be 16 this year, and to give her a head start is amazing. We are so blessed to have this opportunity together to grow as women.
A final note: I was looking for a book mark and found this picture. Love this sweet girl and the strong young woman she has become.
Thanks to God for our strong bond that can only get stronger and will never be broken.
