In no particular order, the 7 Areas of Life are:
1. Spiritual
2. Emotional
3. Mental
4. Physical
5. Relational
6. Social
7. Financial
I’ve written books on each of the areas of life. You can shop for them on my website or at www.Amazon.com (search for Marvello V books).
Below, I share a few highlights of each book. You can also check out the video at the bottom of this blog.
SPIRITUAL
In order for love to grow in our spirit we must learn to do two things: 1) let go, and 2) forgive. And of course, we must recognize that love is a force of energy. Love comes from somewhere. It’s not just an idea.
EMOTIONAL
Emotions are the fuel to achieve our goals, to staying motivated & focused. In Temple Grandin’s book, Animals in Translation, she states we can’t completely intellectualize emotions out of our decisions. On some level, emotions are always part of our decision making.
We also discover that time may be part of this area of life because it’s something we feel more than we think.
MENTAL
We are introduced to the concept of the “amygdala hijack”. From birth through childhood, our brains are trained to respond to the stimulus of our environment and upbringing. Some of what we learned as children are survival techniques to get through our life. We carry many of these habits into our adulthood and act them out like a loop in the brain. Knowing this gives us an opportunity to break the loop.
Let’s also not forget that everything begins in the mind. When you look around you and look at material items, those things began as a thought.
PHYSICAL
As a student of martial arts, I’m partial to the physical area of life. It’s in our bodies that we experience all of life. We learn how God speaks to us through our body, much like intuition. We discover how there are more neurons in the gut than there are in the spinal cord and nervous system.
The physical body has the amazing ability to heal itself and other people.
RELATIONAL
This is specific to the people in our lives that we’re close too—the ones we love and care for. The people we’re closest to help us grow on the path of love by reminding us where we’ve been. And they can hold us accountable for the goals we’re trying to achieve.
SOCIAL
Still about relating to people, but more general. We learn at least one common trait all cultures share is mourning of the dead. And also celebration of life. We also learn how the work we do ultimately serves other people.
FINANCIAL
Definitely not another system to build wealth. This book is about what money really is and what God wants us to do with it. We also learn that the way we use money is an expression of our spiritual practice.
