we have to discover God for ourselves

“Even though God may be unknown to us, he is near and willing to reveal himself. God has promised that “if you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me” (Jeremiah 29:13). Turning over our will involves accepting God as he is instead of insisting on creating him in our own image. When we seek God with an open heart and mind, we will find him.”
The Life Recovery Bible, Step 3 – Discovering God devotional, p. 1409.
I once heard that the greatest discovery that man can make is the realization of themselves. It can’t be found through adventures, wealth, materialism, or experiences. It’s a journey into our heart and mind to discover the truth of our humanity; the truth about why each of us exists in this life. The real journey is to discover how God exists in you.
It doesn’t matter what anyone has to say—no matter how eloquent or well-written—unless you’re convinced that God exists. Although the idea of God begins in the mind, the discovery of God begins in the heart. It’s something inside you that you can feel. The feeling is love.
“But what is love? Human language seems unable to capture a passion they say inflames the imagination beyond telling, a standard that pricks the conscience beyond bearing. Love is so difficult to define that the biblical idea of love cannot be found in the vocabulary of any language—not even ancient Greek, [the language] chosen to communicate God’s revelation of truth.”
Robertson McQuilkin, author of An Introduction to Biblical Ethics.
The feeling of love might be the only thing that indicates God exists. You can’t prove love, you can only express what you feel inside; whether it’s a word or an act. I personally think you have to have an experience with God in order to discover Him. And then as you walk with God you start learning more about what it means to follow Him and love like Him.
Honestly, the discovery of God is a lifelong journey. Why? Because the depth of love has no limits and even when you think you understand love, God will show you how far His love can take you. But you have to make that first step, that first commitment, that first heart acceptance. Until that happens, the idea of God will elude you. You really have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
