I’m a foodie. My IG posts can attest to that. My daughter is a foodie too and we sometimes talk about what we’re “in the mood” to eat. We typically don’t like to eat the same thing twice in a row or even the next day; you know, eat leftovers. There are moments when we’ve proclaimed how our foodie mood gets in the way of making a decision on what to eat.
As a person who also wants to maintain a reasonable state of health, I know I can’t always eat out, because restaurant food isn’t always the best for you. Delicious, yes. Healthy, not so much. So my food choices include balancing out what I ate earlier or the day before. For example, I crave pork belly every couple of months or so. When I eat it, I’ll eat it no more than two times in a row and if there are leftovers I’ll freeze it. It’s because I know that pork belly isn’t the healthiest food to eat, even though it’s really delicious. 😉
All of this thought and deliberation on what to eat and when; and it’s just food. Realistically, I don’t need to eat according to my cravings to survive. I just need the basics for my body to survive. But my food choices include a “foodie filter” in which I seek to enjoy what I’m eating. I don’t just eat to survive, but I eat to have fun.
Choosing what to eat, making a choice, is just one aspect of life in which decisions must be made. I’m a progenitor on the 7 Areas of Life: mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, social, & relational. Each of these areas require specific decisions be made in order to thrive and experience personal success. And if you’re familiar with how the 7 Areas of Life work, they’re intertwined. In other words, a choice you make in one area of life can affect the other areas.
All of this to point out that making a choice is not always easy. On one level, the state of our life, our current situation, is a compilation of all the choices we made prior. On another level, our choices are affected by our own life experience and depth of knowledge. And then, there is chance, luck, blessing, spiritual protection that can influence how our choices are made. Whew!
I know that’s a lot to think about. What ultimately matters is that you move a certain direction. And hopefully, that choice will eventually lead you to the desires of your heart.
